The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday slammed the BJP and central probe agency CBI for allegedly conspiring to keep Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in jail in the excise policy case.

There was no immediate reaction available from either the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or the BJP on the AAP allegations.

Senior AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Atishi claimed that the CBI had sought time from the Supreme Court to file a reply to Kejriwal’s bail plea but it was “planted” in newspapers.

“The CBI tells the court that its reply on the bail plea is not ready and hence the bail hearing will be extended by 14 days. On the same day the CBI’s reply is handed over to the media so that it can become a one-sided headline in the newspapers,” Sisodia posted on X in Hindi.

“The CBI is dancing like a puppet following the instructions of the BJP to keep Arvind Kejriwal in jail,” he added.

The senior AAP leader said the conspiracies being hatched to “manage headlines” will fail and truth and honesty will triumph one day. Agencies may dance to a political tune, but the Constitution and justice stand with truth, he said.

The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned the hearing on Kejriwal’s bail plea in the excise policy case till September 5 after the agency sought more time to file its affidavit in this regard.

Kejriwal has filed two separate petitions challenging the denial of bail and against his arrest by the CBI in the case.

The CBI, in its detailed affidavit filed in response to Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest, alleged that all critical decisions in formulating the now-scrapped excise policy were taken at the behest of the Delhi chief minister in connivance with then deputy chief minister Sisodia.

At a press conference, AAP leader and Delhi Minister Atishi also criticised the CBI.

“The CBI affidavit was ready but they lied before the Supreme Court just to keep Arvind Kejriwal in jail for a few more days,” he alleged.

During Kejriwal’s bail hearing, the ‘BJP CBI’ sought a week’s time to file an affidavit, but it is being published in all newspapers today, he alleged.

“The question that arises is how could the affidavit for which the CBI needed a week’s time yesterday appear in all the newspapers today? That means the CBI is conspiring to keep Arvind Kejriwal in jail for a few more days,” he said.

“I want to tell the BJP that no matter how hard they try, the truth always prevails. We saw in the case of Manish Sisodia that despite the efforts of the CBI and the ED, he got a reprieve from the Supreme Court,” Atishi said.

She said the AAP is confident that Kejriwal will be released from jail soon and that every “conspiracy” hatched by the BJP through the CBI and the ED will fail.

Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case related to the excise policy case on March 21, was granted bail by the trial court on June 20. The trial court’s bail order was revoked by the Delhi High Court on June 21.

Kejriwal moved the Supreme Court on June 22 against the high court order but was arrested on June 26 by the CBI in the excise policy case.

Later on July 11, the Supreme Court granted bail to Kejriwal in the money laundering case filed by the Education Department.
