Following the case of sexual assault of a minor girl in Badlapur, a wave of accusations has swept through political circles, with several parties trying to deflect responsibility. Opposition groups initially directed their criticism at the Indian People’s Party (BJP)supposedly due to the presence of RRSS and BJP-affiliated figures on the school’s governing board. However, Badlapur political sources and reports indicate that the school’s governing board includes leaders from both factions of the Shiv Sena, those aligned with Eknath Shinde and Uddhav ThackerayAccording to sources, five of the board members are linked to these factions, while two are independent or represent the teaching staff.
According to sources, the chairman of the board, Uday Kotwal, is said to have links with the RSS, while the vice-chairman Janardan Dhorpade is associated with the Sena ShivThe Eknath Shinde faction of the organisation. Reliable sources also report that other members with RSS connections include treasurer Ram Shete, member Uday Kelkar and BJP leader Nandkishore Patkar.
Besides, the Shiv Sena-Shinde faction is represented by former Thane district chief Manohar Ambawane and Sanjay Gaikwad. The board also has members from the Sena-UBT faction, including Harishchandra Bhoir and Ashok Ghorpade.
This mix of affiliations highlights that the board is not only linked to the RSS but also includes representatives from both factions of the Shiv Sena and the BJP.
Responding to the incident, the Bombay High Court has sought an affidavit from the state government to ensure a transparent investigation. As the case unfolds, political parties are expected to further clarify their positions on the matter.
