Shah stresses need to act against funding of left-wing extremism

Raipur: Minister of the Interior of the Union amit shah On Saturday, he stressed the need to give further impetus to the campaign against left-wing extremism (LGE).

“Funding of LWE as well as supply of arms to Naxalites must be stopped,” he said at a review meeting on LWE and inter-state coordination in Nava Raipur, attended by senior officials from seven Naxalite-affected states.

Strategy to tackle LWE, inter-state coordination, capacity building of security forces, expeditious investigation and prosecution of Naxalite cases and comprehensive development of Maoist-affected areas were some of the issues discussed during the meeting, an official said here.

Addressing the gathering, Shah said the campaign against LWE was now at a decisive stage and his government was committed to completely eradicating the menace by March 2026.

“We now have to work twice as fast and intensely as we did at the beginning of the anti-Naxal operations, only then can we completely eradicate this problem from our country,” he said.

Chief Secretaries of Naxalite-affected states should hold a review meeting on development works in LWE-affected areas every fortnight. Unless anti-Naxalite operations are continuously monitored, we will not be able to achieve the desired result, he said.

The surrender policy of Naxalites should be flexible but efforts should be made to ensure that it is not misused, the Home Minister added.

States should hand over the investigation of inter-state cases related to Naxalism to the National Investigation Agency, Shah said.

“We will have to fight against those who support the ideology of left-wing extremism and convey our views to all sectors of society with humility and firmness,” he said.

Among those present were Chhattisgarh Prime Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai and Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police (DGPs) of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa, Madhya PradeshAndhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra.
