He has been determined to be a 26-year-old Syrian refugee. Spiegel claims he arrived in Germany in 2022 and filed an asylum application in Bielefeld. The attacker approached police, still covered in blood and soaked from the heavy rain. He said: “It’s me you’re looking for.” The suspect, according to BILD sources, has been hiding in a backyard since the incident.
The alleged perpetrator is Issa Al-H., a 26-year-old Syrian citizen who, after travelling to Germany in 2022, sought asylum in Bielefeld. Due to the ongoing civil conflict in Syria, he was granted subsidiary protection in Germany. According to sources from The Spiegel, he has not yet been classified as an Islamic extremist.
Details of the Solingen attack
At a folklore event to mark the 650th anniversary of the city of Solingen, an assault occurred. Knives and scissors are among the products Solingen is famous for. The incident took place next to a makeshift stage that had been erected for the celebration, which was advertised as a “Festival of Diversity”, during a live music performance.
According to witnesses, the attacker chose his victims at random. According to authorities, at least one of the victims was deliberately attacked in the neck area.

No further information has been released on the names of the victims. In addition to the deceased, eight other people were injured. Four of the injured are in critical condition.
