‘State-sponsored communalism’: Asaduddin Owaisi hits out at Madhya Pradesh government over house demolition | India News

BHOPAL: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday termed the demolition of the house of a man allegedly involved in a protest against a Hindu seer in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district as “state-sponsored communalism.” Owaisi was reacting to the demolition of Shahzad Ali’s house on Thursday, a day after a protest called by the Muslim community against alleged anti-Islamic remarks made by Ramgiri Maharaj turned violent with the crowd pelting stones and damaging vehicles, leaving several policemen injured.

The president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) condemned the stone pelting at the police and the destruction of Ali’s house and cars. He alleged that stones were pelted when a delegation was delivering a representation against the anti-Islamic remarks (of Ramgiri Maharaj).

“A day after the stone pelting incident, Ali’s house was demolished despite him claiming that he had legal permission to do so. In the absence of a valid permission, the local administration should have followed due process of law as per the directives of the Supreme Court,” Owaisi said in a video.

He wondered whether Ali had been served with a notice before his house was demolished. The Hyderabad MP claimed that the Chhatarpur police paraded some alleged accused and forced them to shout slogans.

“A government is governed by the rule of law and not by the rule of the mob. What happened there was an example of the rule of the mob. This demolition of the house is state-sponsored communalism,” he said.

Owaisi claimed that PM Modi is playing theatrics by showing respect for the Constitution, which is being violated by the BJP governments. The house demolition incident was also condemned by the Congress, which questioned the “tendency” of “justice by bulldozer”.
