‘No Hindu has entered India from Bangladesh, but…’: Assam Chief Minister Sarma | India News

Guwahati: Amid the crisis in Bangladesh, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that Hindus are not trying to enter India from Bangladesh and are fighting there.

“Hindus are fighting and staying in Bangladesh. In the last one month we have not detected a single Hindu but we have arrested 35 Muslim infiltrators. Today I have also tweeted that we have arrested two persons in Karimganj and forced them to turn back last night,” Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma told media persons in Silchar on Saturday.
He also said that there is no record of Hindu people from Bangladesh entering Assam.

“We intercepted them and turned them back and fortunately or unfortunately, they belong to a community, not Hindu. Hindus are fighting and no Hindu is trying to come to India. Hindus are only asking our Prime Minister to put pressure on the Bangladesh government to ensure security,” the Assam Chief Minister said.

Earlier, in a post on X, the Assam CM said that the Assam Police detained two Bangladeshi nationals from Badarpur railway station.

“Assam Police arrested two Bangladeshi nationals from Badarpur Railway Station. The arrested were identified as Masum Khan of Modelganj Police Station in Bangladesh and Sonia Akhtar of Dhaka, Bangladesh. They reportedly entered India via Madhoppur (BD)-Agartala route and were heading towards Bangalore. In collaboration with BSF, Assam Police managed to force them across the border last night,” the Assam CM posted on X.

Protests in Bangladesh erupted in early July over demands to reform the quota system that reserves public service jobs for specific groups, including descendants of 1971 war veterans.
