On Saturday, a bomb exploded in a market in Pakistan’s restive Baluchistan province, killing two children and wounding 16 others. Seven policemen were among the injured. The bomb was a remote-controlled bomb placed on a motorcycle and detonated near police headquarters in Pishin.

According to authorities, the blast occurred at a main market near Surkhab Chowk in Pishin district, killing two children on the spot and injuring 16 others.

According to a list released by the hospital, thirteen of the injured were taken to the Quetta Trauma Centre, where one woman died from her injuries. Five of the injured were in serious condition.

The incident is the latest in a series of attacks on police officials and checkpoints, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, the report said.

The TTP broke the ceasefire agreement with the government

The attacks have intensified after the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) broke a fragile ceasefire agreement with the government in 2022 and vowed to target security forces.

According to Pishin Town Police Station Officer Mujibur Rehman, the two injured policemen were in critical condition.

“Apparently, the explosive material was planted on a motorcycle,” SHO Rehman said, adding that three vehicles were damaged as a result.

The Anti-Terrorism Department (CTD) and the Bomb Disposal Squad have arrived at the scene of the incident to collect evidence for investigation, the official said.

State broadcaster PTV News reported that the blast occurred near the office of the Pishin deputy commissioner.

Last month, an IED explosion in Pishin left three officers from the Anti-Terrorism Department and three pedestrians injured. Police officials had said the attack targeted a CTD vehicle carrying department personnel.

On the same day, a soldier of the Southern Frontier Corps Rapid Response Force was killed and seven others were injured in the Buleda area of Kech district, The Dawn reported.
