“People will laugh at you…”: Umpire Anil Chaudhary offers advice to Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan

Indian umpire Anil Chaudhary, in a recent interaction, opened up about his thoughts on veteran Pakistani wicket-keeper Mohammaz Rizwan, stating that the player attracts many and jumps like a pigeon. Chaudhary also stated that with technology evolving to such an extent, players are only inviting trolls on social media by attracting players on every ball.

Chaudhary was speaking on YouTube show ‘2 Sloggers’ where he was asked if he ever refereed a match with Pakistan’s Mohammaz Rizwan and though the referee did not recognise Rizwan instantly, he later went on to give details about an Asia Cup match.

Speaking to the show 2 Sloggers, Chaudhary said, “He attracts a lot. I even told my fellow umpire to stay alert. Har ball pe chillata hai (He keeps shouting on every ball). Isn’t he the one who puts on something like lipstick? He keeps jumping like a pigeon. You see, the fact is that a good umpire knows who a good wicketkeeper is. If the umpire is good, such wicketkeepers are losers. Aur itna technology aa gaya hai, kyun apna beizatti karwa rahein ho? Ulta seedha nikla jayega, toh log aap hi ka mazak udayenge (When technology has evolved so much, why do you have to make yourself look bad? People tend to make fun of such things).”

Rizwan’s brave effort against Bangladesh:

Mohammad Rizwan is currently part of the Pakistan squad, which is playing against Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi International Stadium. Rizwan played a crucial role in Pakistan’s comeback during the second day of the first Test match with a knock of 171 runs (off 239 balls), taking his team from a precarious position of 16/3 at one stage to declaring the innings at 448.

Rizwan partnered Saud Shakeel to put on a 240-run stand and help his team make a strong comeback. When Shakeel was eventually dismissed with his team on 354, Rizwan worked with Agha Salman and Shaheen Afridi to take Pakistan closer to the 450-run mark.
