Kolkata doctor in rape and murder case: Polygraph test conducted on prime accused Sanjay Roy today

Calcutta:As the CBI continues its investigation into the gruesome rape and murder case of a junior doctor at the RG Kar Medical Hospital in Kolkata, the prime accused in the case, Sanjay Roy, will undergo a polygraph test on Sunday, August 25. He will undergo the test at the Presidency Correctional Home today, a day after it was postponed due to technical issues.

During a court hearing, Roy claimed that he was innocent and that the charges against him were false, though he confessed to his wrongdoing during intense interrogation by the CBI.

The central probe agency may need a few more days to complete the polygraph tests of the seven individuals involved as the process is time-consuming as only two devices are available at present, news agency PTI reported.

Meanwhile, the prime accused has been placed in cell number 21 of the jail under tight security, with CCTV cameras installed outside the cell. He is being held alone. Jail officials revealed that Roy told security guards that he had no knowledge of the crime.

The CBI intensified its efforts in the ongoing investigation into the case and questioned over 15 people on Saturday, including 10 police personnel and civic volunteers.

The probe agency on Saturday began conducting lie-detection tests on former director of RG Kar Medical and Hospital Sandip Ghosh and five others in connection with its probe into the rape and murder of a female doctor at the institute. The CBI has also registered a case of alleged financial irregularities at the same centre.
