Filmmaker Ranjith resigned from his post as president of Kerala’s Chalachitra Academy on Sunday morning following recent allegations of sexual assault by an actress.

“The government will not protect anyone who makes the mistake. Action will be taken if the allegations against the Academy President Ranjith are proven,” he wrote on Facebook.

In his Facebook post, the filmmaker said, “Over the past three years, several allegations have been levelled against the president of the Kerala state Chalachitra Academy. There were complaints that the president directly influenced the jury members to give awards to certain people and deny them some films. This was openly stated by director Vinayan and two other jury members.”

Meanwhile, the Youth Congress has filed a complaint demanding a investigation against Ranjith. The complaint has been filed with the Director General of Police (DGP) of Kerala, demanding an inquiry against the president of the Kerala state’s Chalachitra Academy. Youth Congress vice-president Abin Varkey filed the complaint, urging an inquiry in view of the recent revelations made by a Bengali actress. The complaint calls for a thorough investigation into Ranjith’s actions, stressing the need for him to be held accountable.

This complaint arises from an earlier demand by the Youth Congress for action based on the findings of the Hema Justice Committee Reportwhich highlighted the problems existing within the Malayalam film industry.
