Workers stopped work at Nafarchand Jute Mill in Kankinada, North 24 Parganas from Saturday night following a dispute with a woman worker on Friday night. After work was completed from 6 am to 4 pm on Saturday, the workers stopped work completely. There is a possibility of a meeting on the matter on Sunday.

According to reports, Soma Kandahar, a female employee of the winding department, had a dispute with the department in-charge at around 3.45 pm after the end of the B shift on Friday. Soma alleges that the department in-charge pushed him and allegedly even hit the woman. The night shift employees protested the incident.

It is alleged that when factory officials protested against the incident, four employees of the winding department were thrown out of the gate. The night shift employees stopped work from Saturday afternoon in protest and demanded reinstatement of the four. The employee also lodged a complaint at the Bhatpara police station.

The workers are demanding that the four colleagues be reinstated unconditionally and only after that work can begin. Here, Neeraj Kumar Singh, general secretary of the factory workers’ union, BMS, said that there is a possibility that the factory management will meet on Sunday. If everything goes well, work will begin.
