AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday attacked the BJP-led NDA government over the Waqf Amendment Bill, alleging that the proposed law, instead of protecting Waqf properties, is aimed at destroying them.
Addressing a press conference here, the Hyderabad MP asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to withdraw the proposed legislation.
“In this Bill, instead of protecting the Waqf Board and Waqf properties, it is a way to destroy them,” Owaisi said, claiming that there is no provision in this Bill to protect the Waqf, and accused the BJP of “lying”.
In the name of protecting the Waqf, Narendra Modi and his government are trying to destroy it, he said, adding that their intention is to destroy it.
“There is a message circulating among Muslims in the country that Narendra Modi wants to take away their Waqf properties. We want the Prime Minister and the government to think about it and take back the proposed law,” Owaisi said.
The AIMIM chief also questioned several clauses of the bill, including the move to empower district collectors to decide on the ownership of a disputed property and having non-Muslim members on Waqf boards.
He said the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has decided to meet all non-BJP Chief Ministers to discuss the issues related to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill.
He said they met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin last week and on Saturday they along with AIMPLB president met Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and apprised them of the dangers posed by the Waqf (Amendment) Bill brought by the BJP-led NDA government.
“With this bill, the BJP is seeking to do away with the Waqf and Waqf properties and will affect the religious freedom of Muslims,” he said.

The AIMPLB will meet Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and leaders of the JDU and other BJP allies and explain to them about the bill, he said.
The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 8 and referred to a Joint Committee of Parliament after a heated debate, with the government saying the proposed law was not intended to interfere with the functioning of mosques and the opposition calling it an attack on Muslims and the Constitution.
Responding to a query on the demolition drive by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), Owaisi said his party councillors had met the mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and informed him that HYDRAA “does not have any legal backing” and that has been conveyed to the chief secretary and now the state government has to look into it.
In view of the ongoing demolitions of structures built on FTL-encroached land, he asked whether government offices built in the full tank level (FTL) areas will also be demolished.
