The life of Lord Krishna

According to the Puranas and the Bhagavata Purana, Lord Krishna played a pivotal role in the Mahabharata, the epic battle between good and evil. Born as the eighth son of Devaki, Krishna’s life was filled with divine adventures and exploits. Although Krishna was born in prison, Kamsa, warned by a heavenly voice that Devaki’s eighth son would kill him, tried to eliminate the threat. Kamsa imprisoned his sister and brother-in-law, Vasudeva, and killed the first six newborns. When Krishna was born, however, all the guards fell into a deep sleep, and the prison doors were opened by divine power. Krishna’s father, Vasudeva, then crossed the Yamuna River to safely deliver his son to Nanda, whose wife, Yashoda, raised Krishna. The legend of Krishna is famous not only for his remarkable miracles and feats but also for his recitation of the holy Bhagavad Gita on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.
