One dead, prohibitory orders imposed in clash in Odisha’s Khurda district

On Sunday, tensions erupted in Mukunda Prasad village on the outskirts of Khurda town following a violent clash between two groups. The clash resulted in the death of a man who was attacked with sharp weapons. He was later declared dead on arrival at the Khurda district headquarters hospital.

Following the violence, in which several vehicles were also vandalised, prohibition orders have been issued under Article 163 of the BNSS. This measure is intended to prevent further escalation of violence and maintain peace in the area.

Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania and Director of Intelligence SK Priyadarshi along with senior police officers visited the spot to assess the situation. “Following the murder, locals blocked the road but the police withdrew after assurances that action would be taken against the perpetrators,” said Superintendent of Police (SP) Awinash Kumar. He added that while the situation is normal at present, intensive patrolling is on to prevent any possible flare-ups. Strong action will be taken against the accused, he urged, and asked the community to maintain peace.

District Revenue Collector Chanchal Rana stressed that the police are committed to a thorough investigation into the incident. “Police will investigate the case from all angles and appropriate action will be taken,” he said.
