What makes a beach turn pink?
Beaches get their colour from the miniature creatures found in the sand. It is mainly made up of foraminifera, single-celled organisms with a red outer shell that produces a red pigment in coral reefs.
The corals that are sent up by the waves mix with the white sand and thus produce the soft pink colour visible along the coast.
