Sources told Network18 that Soren left for New Delhi from Kolkata on an IndiGo flight 6E 6004 at 8:11 am to meet senior BJP leaders in the national capital.
This would be Soren’s second visit since last Tuesday. Between the two trips to New Delhi, Soren visited 14 constituencies in the Kolhan region of Jharkhand to meet his supporters and discuss strategy with party workers. In an earlier conversation with reporters, he hinted that he might launch a new political party. However, Champai Soren is yet to resign from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha or the ministerial posts he holds in the Hemant Soren-led state government.
In recent weeks, there has been rife speculation that Champai Soren, 68, and some of his supporters, who are angry with the JMM, are planning to explore opportunities abroad.
Champai Soren served as the seventh Chief Minister of Jharkhand from February to July 2024, while Hemant Soren was under arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on allegations of money laundering. He has been elected to the Legislative Assembly in every election since 2005.
Elections to the 81-member Jharkhand state assembly are due in the last two months of the year. Though Champai Soren and Hemant Soren share the same surname, there is no family connection between the two.
