Following Pakistan’s shock defeat to Bangladesh, PCB chairman Naqvi promises ‘changes’

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Monday vowed to address the problems in Pakistan cricket following the national team’s shock defeat to Bangladesh in the first Test, saying “changes are on the way.”

Stalwart players like Shahid Afridi, Muhammad Hafeez and Fawad Alam criticised the national team for their 10-wicket defeat in Rawalpindi on Sunday.

“I will solve the problems of Pakistan cricket, God willing. And changes are on the way,” Naqvi said while speaking to the media. Hafeez criticised Naqvi, reminding him of his major surgery that he underwent in Pakistan cricket during the World Cup.

Earlier this year, when Pakistan crashed out of the T20 World Cup, Naqvi said after the loss to India: “Initially, I believed that minor surgery would suffice but after this poor performance, it is clear that a major overhaul is needed. The nation will soon witness substantial changes.” However, no changes have been made to the national team and the same veteran players featured in the first Test against Bangladesh under the captaincy of Shan Masood, who suffered their fourth consecutive Test defeat since taking charge last December.

Naqvi insisted that things will change in Pakistan cricket and will not remain the same.

“Mark my words that things will not remain the same and there are many things going on in the background,” he said without giving details.

Afridi reacted to the defeat with fury because Pakistan played without a specialist bowler and played with four fast bowlers on the Pindi pitch.

“How is it possible that they don’t know how to interpret the conditions of their own pitch? It is unacceptable that four players play on this pitch,” he said.
