Police seize over 23 kg of ganja in Andhra, arrest 11 people

NTR District: In a strict action against drug peddlers in the state, NTR district police arrested 11 persons involved in ganja-related cases and seized 23.5 kg of ganja along with stolen property worth Rs 2.60 lakh.

According to police, the accused are addicted to ganja and sell it to youths in various parts of Vijayawada to earn quick money.

Police said five of them had prior arrests for marijuana-related offenses.

“We have recovered two stolen motorcycles and clothes from the accused. Under the supervision of the City Task Force and Law and Order Police, the Anti-Narcotics Cell and Law and Order teams have been gathering information and conducting surveillance on individuals involved in transportation, sale, purchase and supply of ganja,” the police said.

So far, the Anti-Narcotics Cell has registered 35 cases, arrested 120 people and seized about 239 kg of ganja, according to police.

Earlier, the Union Home Minister amit shah inaugurated the zonal office of the Narcotics Control Bureau in Chhattisgarh‘s Raipur on Sunday. Amit Shah also attended the review meeting of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) held in Raipur.

Speaking at the event, Shah said, “It is the responsibility of all of us to make the country narcotics and drugs free with a zero tolerance attitude and implement the Prime Minister’s resolution. I am sure that this zonal office of the Narcotics Control Bureau will play an important role in controlling narcotics. We have set a target of establishing a Narcotics Control Bureau in every state of the country.”
