Pakistan and Bangladesh lose points in WTC due to slowness in first Test | News

ICC Test Championship Maza

Pakistan have been penalised six points in the World Test Championship (WTC) table while Bangladesh have been penalised three points for maintaining a slow pace during the first Test in Rawalpindi, the ICC said on Monday.

Bangladesh recorded their historic first Test win against Pakistan here on Sunday.

This historic victory came after 14 matches against Pakistan, where the Tigers had suffered 12 defeats and managed only one draw. This was Bangladesh’s first ever 10-wicket win in Tests.

Pakistan were deemed six overs short of the target and were therefore deducted six WTC points and fined 30 per cent of their match fee.

Bangladesh were found to be three overs short and were deducted three WTC points along with a penalty of 15 per cent of their match fee.

“Hosts Pakistan fell six overs short of the acceptable mark and lost six WTC points, while visitors Bangladesh lost three points by falling three overs short of the acceptable mark,” the ICC said in a statement.

Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over rate breaches, players will be fined 5 per cent of their match fee for each over their team fails to reach the allotted time.

Furthermore, according to Article 16.11.2 of the WTC playing conditions, a team is penalized one point for each over short.

Pakistan dropped to eighth in the nine-team WTC points table after the defeat, while Bangladesh are seventh.

Additionally, Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was fined 10 per cent of his match salary and given one demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.

The second and final Test will also be played in Rawalpindi from Friday.
