Darwen couple win lottery twice as neighbours walk away with Rs 60m windfall

In an extraordinary stroke of luck, a Darwen couple have won the lottery not once, but twice, in just three weeks, resulting in a collective win for the entire neighbourhood.

Neil, an electrician, and his partner Hayley saw their fortunes change dramatically just three months after taking part in the People’s Postcode Lottery. The couple, who had recently moved into their new home, initially won a £10 prize in their first month of participation. However, their luck took a significant turn when they scooped a £30,000 (Rs 33,17,980) prize soon after.

“We bought the house just three months ago. The first month I won a £10 prize and now I’ve won £30,000,” Neil shared, reflecting on his unexpected win.

The couple’s winning streak didn’t end there. Just three weeks later, their zip code hit the mark again and brought them another cash prize, albeit smaller than the first.

Neil and Hayley’s success sparked excitement in their community, prompting them to encourage their neighbours to take part in the lottery as well. The results were astonishing. A total of 18 local residents took part, resulting in collective prizes of £540,000 (approximately Rs 5.97 million). The whole neighbourhood was thrilled, with all the winners sharing in the joy and excitement of their unexpected, life-changing win.

Emma, a neighbour of Neil’s, expressed her excitement, saying: “It’s amazing to win the lottery with your neighbours. We were all talking to each other and it brought the street together. A lot of us are planning to go on holiday with the money we win.”

Mark, another neighbor, is thinking about a more permanent reminder of his good fortune. “This time I might get a Sonic tattoo. My son loves it. I’m thinking I might get a tattoo with the lottery logo on it, too. I’ll tell the tattoo artist what I want and he’ll do a good job,” he said.

This extraordinary series of events has turned a quiet street in Darwen into a hub of excitement and celebration, as lucky residents look forward to enjoying their windfall together.
