Spiritual tech startup My Tirth India shuts down, founder says: ‘This pain will stay with me for life’

Spiritual tourism startup My Tirth India is shutting down operations due to lack of funds, according to its founder Indraneel Dasgupta.

He said the startup has been facing a shortage of funds following the demise of its largest shareholder and mentor, Subrata Roy, the founder of Sahara India Pariwar.

He raised nearly a million dollars from the late Subrata Roy.

Founder shares announcement

“At My Tirth India we have strived to bring back that ‘smile’ to spiritual tourism. The economies of several cities depend on temples. Hotels, travel, food and culture are built around the temple,” said Indraneel Dasgupta.

“However, it is this experience that we have neglected the most. Over the last few years, My Tirth India has been reaching out to temples, priests, hotels, travel agencies, astrologers, Ayurveda, Yoga and wellness centres across the country to offer a holistic experience to every pilgrim. At the same time, we have tried to generate as much employment as possible in towns, villages and cities, encouraging people to rediscover their culture, traditions and heritage. But with great sadness, we have finally had to close the office due to lack of funds following the unfortunate demise of our principal shareholder and mentor.”

“We have tried, in our own way, to make a difference in people’s lives and at the same time pay tribute to our ancestors who, despite oppression and repression, did not give up their roots and culture. But, as things stand now, we cannot continue to operate with a skeleton staff working without pay, without an office and from our homes. We now have no choice but to stop operations, at least temporarily, as we have no funds to continue. I will carry this pain with me until the day I die,” he added.

My offerings from Tirth India

Founded in 2019, My Tirth India facilitated travel to India’s top religious destinations by bringing together temples, priests, hotels, travel agents, astrologers, Ayurveda and yoga services on a single platform.

The startup also launched spiritual membership programs for travelers and set up spiritual showrooms in cities like Lucknow, Varanasi, Kolkata and Noida, offering products like agarbatti, dhoop, puja samagri, havan samagri and idols.
