Aggarwal also posted a photo of a keyboard with the dollar sign ‘$’ prominently displayed. The post sparked reactions online with many users criticising the Ola CEO for his comments.

Internet users react:

One user wrote: “Change starts at home. Next time you make a presentation, use ₹ instead of $. Then go back and morally police other brands.”

Another wrote: “Only a person who works with MS Excel knows the answer. $ is used to freeze a row or column in Excel formulas, and ₹ can’t do that. That’s why $ is universally used for that purpose. However, you can use ₹ anytime on your computer.”

“Using $ in global formulas has become the norm due to its wide acceptance, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t stand up for our own ₹. Let’s promote the Indian currency and ensure it gets the recognition it deserves in both local and international products,” a third user commented.

Another added: “₹ needs more visibility on the products we use. Bhavish’s initiative is to adopt our currency with pride.”
