Ratna Bhandar’s clandestine investigation to be completed soon: Law Minister

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Monday said that the underground scanning of the gem store at the Puri Jagannath Temple will be done soon. It will be checked whether there are valuable items buried in the storeroom or not. The gem store will be repaired after the inspection. After repair, the jewellery will be counted and accounted for. The Law Minister said that the list prepared in 1978 will be compared with the present figures. The security of the gems will be given priority. Repair work of the gem store will be done. Chief Administrator of Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Arvind Kumar Padhi said that the work of shifting the chests and shelves from the inner and outer chambers of the Ratna Bhandar of Puri Sri Mandir was completed on August 25. Speaking to reporters after coming out of the Shri Jagannath temple, Padhi said that the empty treasure chests and shelves were shifted to a room near the Neeladri Museum following the standard operating procedure (SOP). However, one iron chest could not be taken out due to lack of space near the door, he said. Therefore, the wooden portion of the door was removed as per the SOP to facilitate shifting of the iron chest. Padhi said that every work was done with the support and cooperation of the concerned people. Everything was filmed and the entire work was done in the presence of the executive magistrate. Now both the outer and inner gem storehouse will be handed over to ASI for restoration work for conservation and preservation. The SJTA chief administrator said that after the repair work is completed, the valuables will be taken back to Ratna Bhandar and then counted.

Action against illegal liquor to continue: Prithviraj Harichandan

Law and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Monday said that the action being taken by the Excise Department against illegal liquor traders will continue. He said that during the previous government, raids were conducted against illegal liquor for one or two days. This was just for show and then the raid was called off when the matter calmed down. But this will not happen in the Mohan Majhi government. The government will shut down the illegal liquor racket. The raid will continue till the decisive moment.
