Pioneer plans to expand business with automakers in India for future growth

Japanese manufacturer of car audio and entertainment systems Pioneer On Tuesday he said he is considering associations with car manufacturers in India as part of your future growth Strategy. The company works globally with various automobile manufacturers as a supplier of automotive items such as infotainment systems, speakers, etc.

In India, however, the company has so far focused primarily on the aftermarket business.

“In India, honestly, so far in the last 16 years, the focus was never on the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) side, and I would say that is a major change.

“Therefore, going forward, one of the key growth agendas will be to establish ourselves in the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) world,” Pioneering India Managing Director Aniket Kulkarni told PTI in an interaction.

Partnerships with automakers will be one of the priority areas going forward because in terms of growth, they have huge potential, Kulkarni said.

He noted that the company is already in talks with several automakers, but declined to share details. “So, there are very active discussions on the program, which are going on, be it on the camera side, on infotainment of amplifier solutions. And I think we will soon see working products in the market,” he said. Detailing plans to improve localization, Kulkarni said he plans to establish partnerships with local contract manufacturers for production.

“In the first phase, we will try to partner with established players in each product category, for example, for dash cams, or for infotainment or speakers,” he said.

The company has not yet reached a level where it would be feasible to set up a manufacturing plant, he added.

Currently, it imports most of its aftermarket products from Thailand and Vietnam.

Pioneer India, a unit of Japan’s Pioneer Corporation, on Tuesday introduced four models of dash cams.

“The dashboard camera market in India is expected to grow at an exponential rate of 15 to 16 percent between 2024 and 2030. Our new portfolio of smart dashboard cameras aims to capture a significant portion of this growth,” Kulkarni said.
