Jay Shah, 35, made history on Tuesday by being elected the youngest ever president of the coveted International Cricket Council (ICC). Shah was elected unopposed to the post after outgoing president Greg Barclay decided not to stand for a third consecutive election.
Following Shah’s elevation to the ICC top job, a flurry of wishes began to circulate on social media. Among the prominent names who wished Shah a new journey were Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, former coach Ravi Shastri and current coach Gautam Gambhir.

India head coach Gautam Gambhir praised Jay Shah’s exceptional leadership and wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Big congratulations @JayShah bhai! I know world cricket will grow immensely under your exceptional leadership!”
Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya also wished Shah on his promotion and wrote: “Congratulations @JayShah bhai on being elected as the youngest ICC President. I look forward to seeing you take cricket to even greater heights. Your vision and drive will help the ICC, just as it did the BCCI.”
Opening batsman Shubman Gill also wished Jay Shah X, writing: “Congratulations on being appointed as ICC President, all the best Jay bhai!”
Former Indian team coach and commentator Ravi Shastri also congratulated Shah on being elected unopposed and wrote: “Congratulations to @JayShah on being elected unopposed as ICC President – the youngest ever at just 35! His experience at the helm of the @BCCI will certainly serve him well. The cricket fraternity can be assured that Jay will work tirelessly to help World Cricket and the @ICC realise their full potential and take them to the next level.”
Who replaces Jay Shah as BCCI secretary?
According to a recent report by Dainik Bhaskar, Jay Shah will be replaced at the BCCI by DDCA president Rohan Jaitley, son of late politician Arun Jaitley. Other names linked with the post include Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Avishek Dalmiya, Punjab’s Dilsher Khanna, Goa’s Vipul Phadke and Chhattisgarh’s Prabhtej Bhatia. However, it is yet to be confirmed who will fill the vacant post.
