Of the 12 industrial cities, two are coming up in Andhra Pradesh and one in Bihar.
The government had announced in the Budget the development of plug-and-play industrial parks in or near 100 cities in partnership with states and the private sector to boost manufacturing.
Details of industrial smart cities:
- Aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat
- Large industrial style necklace Smart cities on the spine of the Golden Quadrilateral
- Twelve projects worth Rs 28,602 crore will transform India’s industrial landscape
- Employment Potential: 10 Lakh direct jobs and up to 30 Lakh indirect jobs
- Investment potential: Rs 1.5 trillion
- Based on the principles of Prime Minister GatiShakti
- Plug and play and walk-to-work concepts with planned urbanization
- Robust and sustainable infrastructure to boost investments and stimulate balanced regional development
- It will consolidate India’s role in global value chains with land ready to be allocated to investors
Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh earlier told PTI that eight such cities are already at different stages of implementation.
Trunk infrastructure has been created in four cities – Dholera (Gujarat), Auric (Maharashtra), Vikram Udyogpuri (Madhya Pradesh) and Krishnapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and allotment of land parcels for industry is underway.
Similarly, in the other four, the government’s special purpose vehicle is in the process of building basic infrastructure such as road connectivity and water and power supply.
With eight already in the development stage and the announcement of 12 new ones in the Budget, the total number of such cities in the country will reach 20.
The measure will help increase the share of the manufacturing sector in the country’s GDP and create jobs.
