Maruti Suzuki to launch 6 cool electric cars by 2031, know the company’s master plan

Maruti Suzuki will introduce one new electric car every year till 2031, the company plans to launch 6 new electric cars by 2030-31. Maruti Suzuki EVX will be launched soon, which will be the company’s first electric car.

At the company’s annual general meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, Chairman RC Bhargava spoke about its vision to achieve carbon neutrality goals in India. At the AGM, Maruti Suzuki announced its plan to stick to small, low-cost cars, saying that the country cannot limit itself to only large, luxury vehicles.

Bhargava highlighted Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to carbon neutrality and said the company is “reviewing the best ways to strengthen and accelerate the development of new technologies and products.” The Indian automaker is expected to pursue the development of electric vehicles with the technical expertise of Japan’s Suzuki and introduce its first electric model at the India Mobility Global Expo 2025 to be held from January 17. Earlier this month, Maruti Suzuki confirmed that a second electric vehicle model is in the works and will be launched soon after the launch of the first one.

Maruti Suzuki’s first electric model will be based on the eVX concept that has been showcased multiple times both in India and abroad. While the manufacturer will be late to the EV race, it has already said that it will introduce one model every year till 2031. Maruti Suzuki is expected to take its hybrid programme forward, with Bhargava reiterating the importance of hybrid powertrains in reducing pollution and fuel consumption compared to engine-only models. Maruti Suzuki also spoke of its plans to develop low-cost small cars, a segment it had revolutionised with the original Maruti 800. Bhargava has said that the company expects the small car market to recover by the end of FY25-26, emphasising the importance of this segment in India’s economic conditions.

The Maruti Suzuki eVX is expected to go into production next year and will be the company’s first all-electric offering. The eVX Concept is a compact electric SUV that will compete with the Tata Curve EV, Hyundai Creta EV and Honda Elevate EV. It is expected to have all-wheel drive and off-road capabilities. Suzuki Motor has claimed that the new SUV will offer a range of up to 500 kilometres on a single charge but has not given any information on the battery capacity. The cabin of the car is expected to feature a large infotainment touchscreen with support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The EVX is expected to feature a digital instrument cluster, a wireless smartphone charging slot, automatic climate control and ventilated front seats that will be electronically adjustable for the driver.
