  • Birsa Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana has been launched for the 2024 Kharif season.

Under the scheme, farmers are given the option of taking crop insurance at a premium of just one rupee, so that they can get adequate compensation in case of crop loss.

Compensation amount and plan information

Under the Birsa Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, if 80% of farmers’ crops are damaged, they will be provided Rs 70,000 per acre for paddy and Rs 50,000 for maize as compensation. The state government has selected three major agencies for crop insurance. The task of providing insurance to farmers in Deoghar has been entrusted to Future General Insurance India Company Limited.

Whereas, HDFC has been entrusted with the responsibility of securing the districts of Garhwa, Koderma, East Singhbhum, Sahibganj, Palamu, Ramgarh, West Singhbhum and Lohardaga. ICICI Lombard will take care of the insurance in Godda, Bokaro, Latehar and Chatra districts. Additionally, Dumka, Giridih, Seraikela Kharsawan, Pakur, Ranchi, Jamtara, Simdega, Hazaribagh and Khunti districts will be secured by Bajaj Allianz.

All farmers in the state can apply for this scheme, whether they have taken a loan under KCC (Kisan Credit Card) or not. The last date for getting Kharif crop insurance has been fixed as August 31. At present, there are 13 lakh farmers in the state who have availed the KCC benefit, so banks have been directed to ensure insurance for all farmers before the stipulated deadline.
