Parvathy calls Mohanlal’s resignation as AMMA president “cowardly”

Malayalam actress Parvathy Thiruvothu, who recently appeared in the film ‘Thangalaan’, reacted strongly to the veteran actor. MohanlalThe resignation of the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) came in the wake of the Justice Hema Committee report, which led to allegations of sexual harassment against some members of the executive committee. She called the move “cowardly” for not recognising the gravity of the matter.

What Parvathy said about Mohanlal’s resignation from AMMA

In an interview with Mojo Story, Parvati “The first thought I had when I heard the news about this collective resignation was, ‘How cowardly. How cowardly of them to leave a position where they now have the responsibility of speaking to the media. ’ That was the immediate excuse. Again, the onus is on us women to carry forward the conversations and the debates and all that. It would have been amazing if they had at least shown the intention to work with the government and the stakeholders and find a way out.”

Parvathy asks why women have to bear the burden again and again

She continued, “This is the same executive committee that welcomed the main accused in the 2017 sexual assault case when the case was still ongoing. This is the same executive committee that claimed that none of this really existed until the allegations against them came to light. Also, it was very careless of the government to make statements like, ‘If women have complaints, they should just file an FIR and propose names.’”

“Once again, the onus is on women to speak out and shame and take responsibility for the damage. My question has always been: what is the evidence of justice that they can show to demand that we speak out and shame[the perpetrators]? After that, what happens to us, to our careers, our lives, our legal fees and our mental health issues? Nobody gives a damn about that. Why, time and time again, does the onus fall on women to take responsibility for problems that we did not cause?” she added.

On the report of the Hema Justice Committee

Earlier this month, a censored version of the Justice Hema Committee report on harassment of women in the Malayalam film industry was made public. The report contained shocking accounts of harassment, exploitation and mistreatment of female professionals.
The 235-page report, released after redacting the names of witnesses and accused, said the Malayalam film industry is controlled by about 10 to 15 male producers, directors and actors who dominate and exercise control over the industry. The report by the three-member panel headed by a former Kerala High Court judge and set up by the state government in 2017, was submitted to the Pinrayi Vijayan government in December 2019 and was made public only this month.
