Residents of Kamnath Nagar near Fatehgunj area in Vadodara woke up to a “huge” surprise after a crocodile waded through flood waters and reached a house in the colony.

News agency PTI reported that around 17,800 people were evacuated from flood-affected areas as heavy rains lashed parts of the state for the fifth consecutive day.

Amid a flood-like situation prevailing in several parts of GujaratPrime minister Narendra Modi Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel met him to take stock of the situation and assured the Centre’s support to the state in tackling the natural disaster. Districts in the Saurashtra region such as Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Rajkot and Porbandar received between 50 mm and 200 mm of rain in a 12-hour period ending at 6 pm. Bhanvad taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka district received 185 mm of rain during this period, the highest in the state.
