Sheetal Devi breaks world record in archery at Paralympics and makes history in Paris

Indian Para archer Sheetal Devi set the world record in the women’s individual compound bow competition at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games by scoring 703/720 points in the qualification round.

Armless archer Sheetal Devi thus broke the previous Paralympic world record of 698 held by Phoebe Paterson. However, Sheetal Devi’s world record did not last long as Turkey’s Oznur Cure scored 704/720.

Sheetal Devi’s historic moment at the Paralympics

Sheetal Devi made the whole of India proud on the first day of the 2024 Paralympics as she broke the world record in archery with a superb score of 703 to break the world record in the history of the Paralympics. Sheetal’s world record did not last long as Oznur Cure had a perfect final series to take her score to 704 and surpass Devi.

Sheetal Devi, despite narrowly failing to maintain her world record, has made history for India. She has become the first Indian archer to score over 700 points in a women’s individual compound competition. Moreover, her score of 703 is a personal best as she finished in second position and advanced to the round of 32.
