India’s chances of participating in the Champions Trophy The year 2025 still seems a long way off. The ICC Champions Trophy has returned to Pakistan for the first time and the Pakistan Cricket Board is trying to use this occasion to organise the tournament in a grand manner.

PCB has reportedly already submitted a detailed proposal to the ICC and also allocated around Rs 17 billion for the renovation of three stadiums in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi.

India’s matches are scheduled to be held in Lahore for security reasons. But Bank of Canada International Trade Commission (BCCI) India last travelled to Pakistan in 2008 to take part in the Asia Cup and the Men in Green subsequently travelled to India in 2012-13 for a bilateral series.

Since then, the two teams have not visited each other but have faced each other in several ICC tournaments. The BCCI has already made it clear that the Ministry of External Affairs will take the final decision on whether to visit Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.

Former Pakistan goalkeeper Kamran Akmal The Pakistan Cricket Association (PCA) president raised questions by insisting that if Australia can visit Pakistan, India should also follow suit. In an interaction with the Times Of India, he said, “When a team like Australia can visit Pakistan, why not India? The bilateral series between India and Pakistan should take place. Both governments need to sit down and talk. This will benefit cricket.”

“Before the Asia Cup was withdrawn, there was already a Champions Trophy. Why? (First the Asia Cup was taken away from Pakistan; now, talking about the Champions Trophy, why?) Pakistan has worked hard to bring cricket back to the country. If India invites Pakistan, our government will never stop us. They will say, ‘Go and play’. The Indian government should do the same. Let us keep politics aside and play cricket.”
