A tribal boy from Odisha cleared NEET exam, know his success story, Career News

Mangala Muduli from Odisha has proved that a person can do anything if his intentions are strong. Mangala Muduli hails from a tribal community in Odisha which has the lowest literacy rate among the 62 tribal groups in Odisha. As per the 2011 Census of India, the literacy rate of the Bonda tribe was 36.61 per cent, the lowest among all the tribal groups in Odisha at that time.

This boy from the Bonda tribe has done wonders that hardly any member of the Bonda tribe could ever have imagined. Mangala Muduli, 19, has cleared the NEET exam. He has been admitted to the MBBS course at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Behrampur town of Ganjam district, more than 400 kilometres from his home. He has become the first person from a vulnerable tribal group to do so. Let us tell you that in this year’s NEET exam, Mangala secured 261st rank among the candidates from the tribal group in his first attempt.

Mangala Muduli comes from a family of farmers. He received his schooling from Mudulipada SSD High School and his further education from SSD Higher Secondary School located in Govindapalli. Mangala Muduli’s elder brother had already dropped out of school and no one in his family was thinking of a better future for him.

When Mangala Muduli was studying science in higher secondary school, he was advised to take a medical entrance exam and got admitted to a coaching institute in Balasore, Odisha. Mangala Muduli wanted to be a doctor since childhood because there were no health facilities available in his village. He said, “I have seen people in my village struggling to get health services. If someone falls ill, they have to walk miles to the primary health care centre. In such situations, many people take the help of magicians or exorcists. I want to change that.”

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan congratulated Mangala on her success. Former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also praised and congratulated Mangala Muduli on social media platform X.

Mangala Muduli is a source of inspiration for all those people who, despite their weak financial status and less resources, achieve amazing things in life that even the best of people cannot achieve. They are a source of pride and inspiration for the entire tribal community and for many prospective students.
