The Thiruvananthapuram Museum Police have registered an FIR against noted Malayalam actor Siddique on charges of rape following a complaint by a young actress.
Siddique He had earlier resigned as general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) following allegations made by the young actress.
Siddique also filed a complaint with the police claiming that the actress’s accusation is a conspiracy against him.
Actor Mohanlal on Monday resigned as president of the Malayalam Cine Artists Association in the wake of the Justice Hema Committee report and allegations of sexual harassment faced by some members of the executive committee.
Mohanlal and all executive members have resigned.
Following the release of the Hema Committee report, a section of AMMA members demanded that those facing sexual harassment allegations resign from key positions.
They said those facing charges should not delay submitting their resignations and that their continued tenure does not serve the interests of the association.
More actresses have come forward with complaints and allegations in the wake of the Hema Committee report which revealed discrimination and harassment against women in the Malayalam film industry. The government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the difficulties faced by women in the industry.
Kerala Police said the Special Investigation Team held a meeting at the police headquarters on Tuesday.
“The SIT has been strengthened by inducting more women constables. All related cases registered at local police stations will be transferred to the SIT for further investigation,” a statement from the Kerala Police said.
On August 26, Malayalam film actress Minu Muneer made allegations of sexual harassment against some of her co-stars in the Malayalam film industry.
