Rural women can become self-sufficient if they earn income from tailoring.

Pusa: Under the Scheduled Castes sub-project, a ten-day training on tailoring and garment making was organised at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Birauli under the guidance of Dr Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University. In the training, women from Scheduled Castes were trained on how to stitch various types of garments for daily use. In the textile sector, women were taught to make garments like petticoats, blouses and salwar suits. By learning all these, women can create self-employment by stitching at regional or commercial level. One can become self-sufficient by earning a small income of up to Rs 3,000 per month. Varsha Kumari, subject matter expert from Home Science centre, said that usually, every month of the year, people wear new clothes in every house on some festival or other auspicious occasion. Women trained in tailoring can earn good income by doing tailoring on any occasion. At the same time, these skilled women can help other women earn a living by training them. Commercial sewing initially costs between Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000 and gradually good income can be earned by using different types of sewing equipment.
