Western cinema, as British actor Daniel Caltagirone sees it, is “dying,” and Indian films are on the verge of supplanting Hollywood, which seems to have lost its way in the rise of streaming services. The actor plays the antagonist Lord Clement in Pa Ranjith’s upcoming period drama Thangalaan, starring Chiyaan VikramMalavika Mohanan and Parvathy Thiruvothu.
Caltagirone, who has starred in films such as Legionnaire (1998), The Pianist (2002) and The Fall (2006), feels “privileged” to be making his debut in Indian cinema at a time when stars such as Deepika Padukone “There is a change. I don’t know if it is because of streaming, but I urge people not to give up cinema… Indian cinema is having an impact globally,” he said.

Caltagirone praised Indian cinema as “exciting, colourful, fun and gripping”, adding: “There is an incredible old-school narrative. It immerses you in the world, whereas in the West we have lost something. It has become boring, it has become too self-reflexive. Indian cinema is close to surpassing Hollywood.”
The British actor, who had already worked with Shekhar Kapur in The Four Feathers (2002), would like to reunite with Vikram, who plays the lead role in Thangalaan. Caltagirone explained: “We had this crazy agreement [on set]He could be 200 meters away and he would look at me like that.
