Samit Dravidson of former Indian captain and head coach Rahul DravidSamit earned his first call-up for India Under-19 for the home series against Australia. An all-rounder on the field, Samit was rewarded for his performances in junior cricket. The right-handed batsman played a key role in Karnataka’s victory in the 2023/24 Cooch Behar Trophy.
Samit excelled with the bat and scored 362 runs in 8 matches. He also showed his skill with the ball and picked up 16 wickets. Samit scored 22 off 46 in the final and picked up two wickets.
Karnataka won the final thanks to the lead they gained in the first innings. With Prakar Chaturvedi’s top-scoring 404, Karnataka posted a total of 890/8 on the board. Mumbai were bowled out for 380.
Given his all-round abilities, Samit seems almost ready to make his debut in the youth Test and in ODI against Australia. But he will not be able to represent India in the U-19 World Cup 2026 Regardless of the number of runs he scores and the wickets he gets for the junior team.
The reason why Samit is not eligible to play in the upcoming Under-19 World Cup is his age. Samit was born on November 10, 2005. He will turn 19 this year and 20 in 2025. He was eligible to participate in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup, which was played earlier this year in South Africa. Samit was playing for Karnataka in youth cricket but could not make it to the World Cup squad.
Samit will be looking to do well and make it to the Karnataka team for the upcoming domestic season. He has not yet played domestic cricket for his state team.
Samit is part of Mysore Warriors in the ongoing Maharaja Trophy T20 and has scored 82 runs in seven innings. He is yet to play in the tournament. Samit’s father Rahul Dravid had a long career in Team India and is one of only two Indian batsmen with more than 10,000 runs in Tests and ODIs.
