“I feel like there’s a lot more work to do and a lot more to contribute,” Root told reporters.
“As a player you pride yourself on influencing games and trying to contribute to winning causes, and over the last few years I’ve obviously had a good time.
“You just have to keep working and try to keep doing it and adding to what is a really exciting team,” he said.

Root attributed some of his success to the bolder approach the team took under coach Brendon McCullum and regular captain Ben Stokes.
“The way we see the game now is a lot of fun, it’s an environment where you see players coming through and thriving. And even as a veteran player that gives you a lot of energy and you still want to add, evolve and improve,” he said.
“Teams now have so much knowledge and information that you can’t be happy with your current situation and you can’t expect to play the same way all the time.”
Root added that it was important to have time to improve the game.
“In recent times, I feel like I’ve struck a good balance between wanting to improve and evolve, but not trying too hard or too fast. I guess that’s the art,” he said.
