In a post on the social media platform X, the U.S. Navy test pilot and astronaut posted an image of the moon with the caption: “The reds and greens of the aurora, as well as city lights, reflect off the solar panels of the service module with The core of the Milky Way behind the space stationHe added: “The solar panels and service module are bathed by a clear blue horizon from a sun that is about to rise behind the camera.”

Providing technical details of the stunning shot, Matthew Dominick wrote: “Single image taken in a time-lapse (I will post a video of the time-lapse soon). 15mm, T1.8, 1.6 s, ISO 6400, no noise.”

The image continues to cause a stir on social media, as netizens went into a frenzy after seeing the latest photo. One user commented: “Another one for the memories!” A second user commented: “I love how this reverses star trails. Stars are dots and Earth has stripes. I’m excited about your work in transforming the way we see what you see from space!”

A third user said: “All the beauty we haven’t seen since the dome (the spacecraft) arrived… all because we didn’t have a real photographer on board. Wonderful, Matthew, wonderful.” That’s why the Everyday Astronaut flight was selected…We would see everything through the eyes of the artists.”

Marveling at the image, one user tweeted: “Wow, how many times do you get to see something like this from the space station?”

This post comes a day after Matthew Dominick shared a short time-lapse video showing the aurora (different layers of the atmosphere in green and orange), the San Francisco Bay Area from space, and the core of the Milky Way.

This image is a continuation of a series of recently released photographs from the International Space Station (ISS).
