The three-day session of the Punjab Assembly, scheduled to begin on Monday, will not be a smooth one as opposition parties are set to hold the AAP-led government accountable over law and order and the mounting state debt.

The Vidhan Sabha session will begin with obituaries and will conclude on September 4.

Congress leader and MLA Aruna Chaudhary said her party will raise the issue of deteriorating law and order in the state.

“Deterioration of law and order is one of the biggest problems. Every day incidents of robbery, extortion and theft occur in the state,” said the Dinanagar MP.

Chaudhary also accused the government of not fulfilling its promise of giving Rs 1,000 per month to every woman. “The AAP government has cheated women in Punjab.”

Congress MP Sukhwinder Singh Kotli said, “The AAP government had promised to set up 18 universities in the state. It has been two and a half years of AAP rule but they have not been able to get land to set up even a single university.”

BJP legislator Jangi Lal Mahajan said he will raise the issue of alleged illegal sand mining taking place in the state.

Kotli said the duration of the session should be increased as the three-day session is too short.

The AAP, when not in power, used to demand longer sessions to discuss people’s issues in the House, he said.

Congress MP Sukhpal Singh Khaira accused the AAP government of ruining the importance of the assembly by limiting it to just three days.

“The @BhagwantMann government has ruined the importance of Vidhan Sabha, the most crucial pillar of democracy, by reducing its sessions to near insignificance, leaving no room for any meaningful debate,” Khaira said in a post on X.
