The BCCI will soon announce the rules and regulations for the LPI 2025 Auction. A few months ago, the board of directors had announced that there would be a mega auction, but some franchises objected during the July meeting. A final decision on the mega auction will also be announced soon. Franchises will only be able to retain a certain number of players if there is a mega auction.
KL Rahul is one of the prominent players who could be part of the mega auction. Aaj Tak recently reported that Lucknow Super Giants (GLS) has decided on the future of its captain and that he will be released before the auction.
Amid the report surrounding Rahul’s future with LSG, Jonty Rodas Rhodes has praised him. Rhodes is the fielding coach of LSG. Speaking to India Today, Rhodes said, “I think if you look at his track record as captain of a brand new franchise, making the playoffs every time like he has, it has been something that has contributed a lot to his captaincy, the way he leads the team and the kind of organisation and approach that he has.”
“So, you know, looking at Rohit’s record as captain, Dhoni’s record as captain, the trophies those guys have won and the consistency they’ve had in winning trophies, from LSG’s point of view, it could be just one thing to get to the final, to win the trophy.”
Rahul joined LSG for a whopping sum of Rs 17 crore ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. He was the captain of LSG till the playoffs of the season. They were eliminated after losing the play-off.
Rahul missed the second half of IPL 2023. Krunal Pandya led LSG in his absence. They once again lost the tie. Rahul-led LSG failed to qualify for the second round of IPL 2024. They managed only 7 wins in 14 matches and finished at the 7th place in the points table. LSG will have a new captain if Rahul returns to the auction.
