Wondering what’s new in Gulmarg? Gul-A-Seum, an Indian Army museum, has been inaugurated in this hill station to commemorate the cultural histories of Jammu and Kashmir and the joint efforts of the Indian armed forces to protect the Kashmir Valley.
Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, GOC-in-C, Northern Command, inaugurated ‘Gul-A-Seum’ at Gulmarg, according to media reports.
What can visitors expect to see at this museum?
The Army Museum depicts stories of bravery and the spirit of patriotism over personal safety that the Indian Armed Forces demonstrated to safeguard local lives in Jammu and Kashmir. This state-of-the-art facility is capable of showcasing the Army’s pertinent role in developing the well-guarded cultural practices of Jammu and Kashmir.
Colonel VN Thapar (retd) told ANI, “This museum is not just a building or a tourist spot. It is a memorial to those people who laid down their lives in the various wars that the country has fought.”
He said: “Kashmir saw the wars that the country fought with Pakistan and China”. This museum bears witness to the bravery of soldiers and stories of battles.”
The museum would add to the beauty of Gulmarg, besides providing an opportunity to tourists visiting Gulmarg and help them enrich themselves with the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir.
Chaudhary Nawab Nazir, a local, cited the Museum as an example: “The details of India-Pakistan “The wars have been incorporated into the museum. It is a huge thing. It will provide knowledge about the entire history of Jammu and Kashmir.”
The museum displays a variety of artefacts, documents and interactive exhibits through which visitors can explore the cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir, showcasing the unique traditions, art and historical milestones of the region along with the Army’s commitment in Jammu and Kashmir towards its contribution towards nation building.
