“What can we say? Remember that in my constituency, when I contested elections, they changed the date without any reason, so they have their own calculations from the BJP and based on them, they decide the date of elections. Everything is working in favour of the BJP and its parties. I am glad that all the officials are local here. I hope that all the staff, whoever is associated with the election process, will play their role to conduct free and fair elections…” the Mufti said.
Earlier on Friday, Mufti mocked National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah said that whenever they come to power, elections become halal for the National Conference and when they lose power, elections become haram for them and this era of political expediency was initiated by them.
He added that when Jamaat-e-Islami participated in the 1987 elections, NC did not want any competition and committed irregularities.
Earlier, National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah defended his decision to contest the upcoming elections. Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, saying the aim is to present a united front against the BJP and minimise its seats.
Elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on September 18, 25 and October 1. The counting of votes will take place on October 4. Jammu and Kashmir is expected to witness multi-faceted contests in most of the seats. It is the first assembly election since the abrogation of Article 370. Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday issued the notification for filing of nomination papers by candidates for the second phase of assembly elections in JK. As many as 26 assembly constituencies will go to polls in the second phase of elections.
