It is unclear from the video whether the Minnesota governor, who was at the state fair in his home state of St. Paul, heard a reporter’s question about Goldberg-Polin’s death. However, as soon as he said it, the vice presidential candidate waved goodbye to the audience.
Israeli forces revealed earlier this week that they had found the bodies of six Hamas hostages in Gaza. The captives were identified on Saturday as Carmel Gat, Eden Yerushalmi, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Alexander Lobanov, Almog Sarusi and Staff Sergeant Ori Danino. They were among more than 200 hostages kidnapped by militants on October 7.
Five of them were kidnapped at an Israeli music festival and another in a nearby area. The IDF said the victims were “brutally murdered.”
Walz was asked, “What is your reaction to the six hostages found in Gaza?” At which point, a member of Harris’s running mate’s team appeared to ask him to leave.
“Okay, thank you all!” said the Minnesota governor before leaving.
Responding to Walz’s video, one social media user said: “Tim Walz was asked a direct question about six hostages, including an American citizen named Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who were murdered by Hamas after being held captive for over 300 days. Walz *ignored* the question and then *walked away* with his ice cream. Disgusting.”
