Zee appoints Shiva Chinnasamy as Chief Technology and Product Officer

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd has appointed Shiva Chinnasamy as Chief Technology and Product Officer with effect from September 2.

Chinnasamy will be responsible for the efforts being undertaken at Zee’s Technology and Innovation Centre (TIC) in Bengaluru in data, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to enhance consumer experience across all platforms and further support the company’s growth plans across its core business segments, Zee said in a statement.

He will be based in ICT and report to Amit Goenka, President, Digital Business, International Linear Business, Enterprise Technology and Broadcast Operations & Engineering.

“As the company progresses in line with its strategic objectives to drive robust growth, certain action-oriented steps are being implemented to enhance business capabilities,” Goenka said in a statement.

Chinnasamy has over 20 years of experience in technology, data science and analytics to deliver large-scale and long-term solutions in close collaboration with stakeholders and business partners, Zee said.

His experience spans ad tech, e-commerce, omnichannel retail, B2C fintech, B2B SaaS, platform engineering, and mobile engineering. He was previously associated with Rippling as the India site lead, in addition to global companies such as Google, Tesco, Target, Amazon, and Verizon Labs, among others.

After months of court battles over a $90 million case (around 748.5 crores) of termination fee arising from a failed merger, Sony Pictures Networks India (now Culver Max Entertainment) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd have decided Resolve your disputes amicably through a non-monetary agreement that allows both parties to move forward independently.

On January 22, Sony terminated the merger cooperation agreement and composite plan of arrangement originally signed on December 22, 2021. Sony had requested US$90 million in termination fees and filed an appeal with the Singapore International Arbitration Center.

Zee responded by filing an appeal before the Mumbai bench of the National Company Law Tribunal, challenging Sony’s decision to cancel the merger and questioning the termination fee. Zee also initiated legal action to challenge the termination fee.
