Infosys issues offer letters to 1,000 new hires in 2022 class after 2.5-year delay, NITES says

After a delay of more than two and a half years, Information systems It has finally issued more than 1,000 offer letters for on-campus hiring starting in 2022, according to IT employees union Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) on Sept. 2.

“These young engineers, who have been waiting for almost two years, now have a confirmed joining date of October 7, 2024. This is a huge win for NITES and all the students who stood firm in the face of uncertainty and delay,” said NITES President Harpreet Singh Saluja.

These positions are for systems engineers and the joining date is set for October 7, 2024. The positions initially offered at the Bengaluru-based company in 2022 required these software engineers to complete two pre-training sessions in 2024, the most recent of which took place on August 19.

Saluja added: “However, we remain vigilant… if Infosys fails to fulfil this commitment and does not meet the accession date, we will not hesitate to stage a protest in front of the Infosys office.”

NITES had earlier filed a complaint with the Ministry of Labour and Employment against Infosys for postponing the onboarding of 2,000 engineering graduates who were selected for the posts of systems engineer and digital specialist engineer during the 2022-23 recruitment drive.

Information systems Chief Executive Salil Parekh recently said the company would honor offers made to newcomers and proceed with their onboarding, though there could be some adjustments to joining dates.

“All the offers we have made are for someone who will join the company. We have changed some dates, but beyond that, everyone will join Infosys and there is no change in that approach,” Information systems Managing Director Salil Parekh was quoted as saying by PTI.

The story began a few months ago, when the company reached out to candidates who had been offered a position in 2020. Since then, these candidates have expressed concerns about the numerous pre-employment training sessions and assessments, which has left them uncomfortable with the entire hiring process.

The salary of a systems engineer was set at 3.6 lakh per annum, while the role of Digital Specialist Engineer offered 6.5 lakh per year, according to media reports.

Pune-based IT employees’ union NITES has requested the Ministry of Labour and Employment to investigate the company for continued “exploitation and unprofessional treatment” of 2,000 engineering graduates selected for the posts of systems engineer and digital specialist engineer during the 2022-23 recruitment drive.
