“As a kid, I really got on my mom’s nerves on many occasions because I’ve always had very strong opinions about clothes, especially how they feel on the body. She tells a story about how we attended a family wedding and I, as a little girl, refused to wear an expensive new dress (pink, frilly, and flowy, as was the fashion at the time) because it was so itchy. After much tearful negotiation, she ended up having to drag me to the wedding in a simple cotton print dress (and probably pretending I wasn’t her daughter). Fashion is as much armor as it is decoration, and if something makes me feel insecure about myself, no matter how well-made, trendy, or expensive it is, I’m probably going to let it go,” shares Rochelle Pinto.
“As the editorial content director of Vogue India, I try to support Indian designers as much as possible, especially those who focus on artisanal elements. I have invested in many pieces over the years and am lucky enough to have been gifted a few as well. Some of them are old enough to be considered archival now,” Pinto shared as she opened up about her love for local brands.
