Statewide strike by Maharashtra transport authority employees enters second day; 63 of 251 bus stations are completely shut

The strike by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) employees over pay hikes and other demands entered its second day on Wednesday, continuing to paralyse services and cause inconvenience to lakhs of passengers, especially ahead of the Ganesh festival. The employees are demanding equal pay with state government employees and seeking adjustment of the pay scale to match that of their counterparts in the state sector.

Delhi Forest Department asks Transport Department for land for compensatory plantations

The Delhi Forest Department has asked the Transport Department to hand over 50,895 sq m of land and also pay over Rs 40 lakh for compensatory plantation for trees felled at a bus stand in Burari, according to official documents. The Forest Department’s communication, dated August 23, to the Transport Department follows an order by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) directing the Deputy Conservator of Forests (Central) to forfeit the security deposit of the Transport Department for non-compliance with compensatory afforestation requirements.
