Odisha News: At least 68 people have lost their lives in attacks by elephants and other wild animals in Odisha this year. State Forest Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia gave this information in the Assembly on Tuesday.
1,087 homes demolished and crops grown on 2,315 acres also destroyed
In a written reply to the question of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Arun Kumar Sahu, the minister said that this year Odisha Besides causing casualties, 1,087 houses and crops spread over 2,315.79 acres were also damaged in man-wildlife conflict incidents in various forest divisions of Uttar Pradesh.
AI helps save people from wild animal attacks
He said that in order to protect human settlements near forest areas from attacks by elephants and other wild animals, the government has deployed Artificial Intelligence (AI) on a pilot basis in Bharatpur area of Chandka Forest Division, Hindol of Dhenkanal Division and Bantala of Angul Division. ) have taken steps to start the e-surveillance project.

Six people lost their lives in Rourkela forest division
Similarly, six people were killed in wild animal attacks in Bonai and Rourkela forest divisions and five people were killed in such attacks in Angul forest division. Four people each lost their lives in Athagarh and Baripada divisions. According to official sources, the Forest Department is also providing an ex-gratia amount of Rs 6 lakh to the families of those killed in wild animal attacks in the state.
