In 2013, Lady Gaga wrote in X (previously Twitter), “I went to the Isabella Blow “An exhibition in London. It’s incredibly moving, beautiful, inspiring. Monsters should disappear; their story is poetry.”

More than a decade later, in 2024, Gaga stepped onto the red carpet at the Venice Film Festivalwearing a spectacular fascinator by haute couture hat and milliner designer Philip Treacy. It was created by Treacy for his 2001 haute couture show. The fascinator was worn by Isabella Blow, the iconic fashion editor who launched the career of designer Alexander McQueen and who is credited with putting London at the centre of the creative world.

The hat is reportedly part of the collection of English fashion designer and socialite Daphne Guinness. A replica of the hat has been displayed in museums in honour of Blow’s legacy. Blow is remembered for her hats. According to The Guardian, “Her trademark was so distinctive that Princess Margaret once greeted her at a party with the words: ‘Good evening, hat.’ At her funeral in 2007, a black 18th-century galleon headdress with delicate lace sails cascading from its high prow, created for her by her favourite hat designer Philip Treacy, crowned her coffin on a bed of white roses.”

Gaga, along with her fiancé Michael Polansky, attended the premiere of Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux.

The Poker Face singer showed off her quirky side and brought drama to the red carpet. She wore a voluminous black Christian Dior Haute Couture gown with pleats and a V-neckline. She accessorised her look with a platinum and 18-carat yellow gold diamond necklace, earrings and a Tiffany Victoria bracelet. She chose a side-swept bun for her hairstyle, which reflected Gaga’s eccentric taste in fashion. Have we forgotten the infamous Frank Fernandez meat dress from 2010?
